Footage and reporting
Put immediate safety first. Then preserve the record.

When it is safe to deal with the camera: preserve, copy, check and find the appropriate reporting route.
Keep the unaltered originals and surrounding footage.
Play the copies before reusing the camera card.
Follow the process appropriate to the incident.
Do not handle the camera or app while riding. If someone is in immediate danger or emergency help is needed, call 999.
Saving footage comes after immediate safety. An online driving-offence reporting portal is not an emergency service.
Once safely stopped, use your model's file-saving instructions. Copy the original files promptly, including the surrounding sequence and both views from a dual-lens camera.
Open the copies to check they play and save a backup away from the camera card. Keep original filenames; make separate working copies if needed.
Write down the date, time, location and a factual account while details are fresh. Keep this separate from the video files.
Note any camera-clock discrepancy and retain relevant reference numbers. Distinguish what you remember from what can clearly be seen in the recording.
Check the official police guidance for both the location and the type of incident. A collision may need a different route from a moving-traffic offence submission.
Follow the receiving organisation's instructions on files, statements and public sharing. Keep the originals after submitting. Footage does not guarantee a police, legal or insurance outcome.
A reliable record of what happens around you.
